Human Touch
A through-line runs across Sherlock's work: showing up for people and taking each life seriously. Twelve years of community theatre (the grief and ambition of the Shakespearean tragedies, the social absurdities of the comedies, the earnest feeling of contemporary musicals) keep that instinct close to the surface. The habit it builds is plain attention to what people actually carry with them.
The same instinct runs through his civic work. Building Drupal sites for the Lincoln School PTA, the Rutherford Theatre Company, and Broadway Bound (and moving them off proprietary platforms onto open-source ones) hands control to the volunteers and small organizations who use them, not vendors. Multilingual mediation at JPMorganChase and front-line work at UPS and Amazon treat each client, colleague, and customer as a person, not a transaction. Judging the Academic Decathlon and running the Northern NJ Drupal Meetup do the same quiet work. The theatre, the PTA, the meetup, and the loading dock are where it counts: in the real, often messy lives of the people who depend on it.
